Hippocrates said, “Before you heal someone, ask him if he’s ready to give up the things that made him sick.” This quote gets to the heart of why spiritual growth is so often challenging. Even when a belief, practice, or meaning doesn’t serve us, it’s often deeply rooted in the way we see ourselves and/or the world.
We don’t give up our beliefs, practices, and meanings easily. But pruning roots that no longer nourish our souls redirects energy so we can grow, bloom, and bear fruit in new ways.
